My name is Mrs. Van Heerden and I am proud to be an English teacher at the Basildon Academies. Moving from South Africa to England was both an exciting and daunting step, but it gave me the incredible opportunity to pursue my dream of teaching, in a new and diverse environment.

The journey has been filled with many challenges, from adapting to a new education system to finding my place in a different culture. However, the unwavering support I received from my mentor and colleagues in the English department has made all the difference. Their patience, encouragement, and constructive feedback have been instrumental in helping me overcome obstacles and build confidence in my teaching practice.

Completing my QTS and ECT at the Basildon Academies was no small feat, but it was made possible through the supportive and collaborative atmosphere of the school. The guidance of my mentor has been a cornerstone of my success, and I will always be grateful for the time and effort they invested in my development. Their belief in me inspired me to push past my limits and grow as an educator.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the Basildon Academies, where I have the opportunity to make a difference and inspire the next generation.
