Sports Technician / Swimming Coach

We wish to appoint a Sports Technician (Swimming) to support our PE department in the delivery of its swimming lessons. 

Salary Range: Salary Band 4 FTE Range £24,803 - £32,110. Actual starting Salary £24,803 with performance-based yearly increments available.

Working weeks: 39 Weeks (Term Time) 
Working Hours: 37 hours per week (08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs and 08:00 – 15:30 Fri)

This is an opportunity to join a successful academy as part of a supportive and very hard working PE Department. The appointed Sports Technician will support in supervising swimming activities and making sure that safety procedures, guidelines and policies are adhered to. The Sports Technician will also be required to support the PE department in extra-curricular activities and duties, clubs and fixtures

We are an aspirational academy operating across two sites.  The Lower Academy specialises in the teaching of our Key Stage 3 students, whilst the Upper Academy specialises in teaching Key Stage 4 and 5. The appointed Sports / Swimming Technician will be based at our Lower academy where our pool has undergone a half a million point investment in state of the art facilities. 

The Sports Technician will be required to hold the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches or equivalent.  Training will be provided if required

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To provide poolside supervision to support the PE Teacher in delivery of the swimming lesson.
  • Instructing or assisting classes in fundamentals of swimming
  • Warning of unsafe activities and enforcing water safety policies and pool regulations
  • Providing first aid in the event of injury and rescuing swimmers in danger or distress
  • Inspecting pool equipment and facilities to make sure they are usable and safe.
  • Supervising and assisting in cleaning equipment and facilities
  • Assist in other activities as directed by the Head of PE
  • Undertake a break/lunch duty as part of normal working hours.
  • To set out equipment and resources in preparation for lessons and take responsibility for the locking and unlocking of changing rooms.
  • To be responsible for personal professional development.
